What to wear in Hong Kong in February?
Cool Weather Clothes
A long-sleeved t-shirt that can be layered over lighter clothes is a good idea. As is a water-resistant light jacket- the rain picks up a little, but there are 9 days of rain in February, almost 1/3 of the month. You can skip the gloves and scarves and keep the packing pretty light as it never gets freezing cold.
Special Considerations
Be sure to bring something for air quality. As it is drier and less rainy in Hong Kong in the winter, many plants and flowers have blooms. Those with allergies should bring something for protection- face masks, medicine, etc. Additionally, anyone with asthma should be prepared as the dry air sees much more pollution being blown in from the mainland of china to the north. Pollution is also generated in Hong Kong, and without too much rain over the winter, it has had time to build up and become a nuisance by February.
Visiting in February
February is regarded by many as one of the best months to visit Hong Kong. The humidity is
mercifully low and the “cold” is mild and pleasant. This combination makes February one of the best seasons, especially for outdoor enthusiasts.
Whether you want to explore the city on foot, or do some hiking along the many islands and nature parks, or simply climb up Victoria Peak, February has little rain, cool weather, and is generally inviting.
Unfortunately, it can be quite overcast, so don’t you might not get a good view.
February is also peak tourist season. A combination of Chinese New Year’s and the inviting weather make for a busy time in Hong Kong. Be sure to book all accommodation and transportation in advance. Prices for pretty much everything will be higher in February than the rest of the year as well.
