The Bright Moon Garden is situated east of the Gulangyu Island on the shore of the Dingfu Rock. The garden is spread over an area of 30,000 sq meters, spreading out on Lujiang beach. It is decorated with pavilions, green trees and rocks. The garden is also home to the Zheng Chenggong Memorial Hall which had been built in honor of the feats of the heroes such as the expel of the Dutch colonists and reoccupation of Taiwan.

Due to its mild weather and subtropical monsoon weather throughout the year, the area has hot summers with over 30 degrees in August and a low temperature of 10 degrees during the winters. Autumn and spring would be the best season to travel.

Highlights of the Bright Moon Garden

The Bright Moon Garden is named after a very popular poem and was built in the year 1985. It is home to a large bronze statue of the Qing and Ming Dynasty’s hero, Zheng Chenggong and the subordinates.

The construction of the statue was completed in August 1985 and is 1617 tons heavy and 15.7 meters high.

This powerful looking statue is sculpted exquisitely from 625 pieces and 23 layers of white granite from Quanzhou. A large set of bronze reliefs are also located in the garden and these reproduce the scene of the hero commanding the army and directing them to sail east for driving the Dutch away from Taiwan, resuming the Chinese rule on Taiwan very vividly.

Ming Dynasty Sculptures and Buildings

Bright Moon Garden contains buildings and sculptures which were unique to its Ming Dynasty. The stone gates, glazed blue roof tiles, stone paths, stone railings, stone steps and stele combine to form a gorgeous picture with the giant rocks, trees, waves, beach and the bright blue sky to accentuate the splendid and elegant environment.

It is a beautiful park to explore during a sunny day with the entire family. Other than the military statues that can be found throughout the garden, there are also a lot of statues of horses and the military which spread towards its sides to form an extended range of sight to attract the attention of the people.

The Name of the Park

The park derived its name from a very popular poetry which had been composed to remember the hero of the nation and the yearning for returning to the treasured island of the motherland, Taiwan. The poem is a part of the poetry collection of Two Yanping Lords. There are various attractions to explore in the Bright Moon Garden such as the Emperor Palace, Fuding Ancient Well, Stele Corridor, the Bronze Sculptures of Zheng Chenggong and the stone statue of Zheng Chenggong.

The holiday and leisure villas of the garden are located closer to the sea. The beautiful villas are preferred as dwellings by tourists visiting the Gulangyu Island. The large statue of the hero is located facing the sea. It is one of the largest statues in China of historic figures and it reflects the entire theme of the Bright Moon Garden.
