National Minorities Park
Located in Xishaungbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, Xishuangbanna Rainforest National Reserve consists of five parts namely Menglun, Mengla, Mengyang, Shangyong and Manggao with a total area of more than 2,854 square km. The virgin tropical forest ecosystem makes it a magnificent and unique rainforest national reserve at home and abroad.
Top Things to See There
The reserve is the “kingdom of Animals and Plants. There is abundant flora that consists of over 3,500 species higher plants, which accounts for about 13% of the total in China. Among these higher plants, there are 58 species of endangered and rare plants that under state protection. These endangered plants are both beautiful and grand that worth paying a visit.
As the Chinese most well-preserved virgin rainforest area, this natural reserve owes various and rare wild lives such as Asia elephant, Pantheratigriscorbetti tiger (Indo-Chinese tiger), brown-headed hornbill and green peacock, etc. Visitors can find these rare wild lives living a homey life by taking a tour bus along the roads in the reserve. Visitors can also shoot pictures of these wild lives.
The Single Tree Forest
There is an old saying goes that a tree can’t make a forest. But there is a big banyan tree with a history of more than 1,000 years that manages it. It is 70 meters tall and covers a total area of 120 square meters with 32 standing roots. It shows its great vitality and the unique features of tropical plants.
Antiaris Toxicaria Tree
It is a poisonous tree that the locals usually use its poisonous sap painting on the arrows to shoot wild beasts.
