Zhangjiajie in Hunan Province in central China has a seasonal monsoon climate. This means that although it is humid with high levels of precipitation almost all year round, Zhangjiajie's weather and temperature have big seasonal changes.
- Spring: Spring is still relatively dry, the weather is mild often sunny.
- Summer: Summer sees the monsoon rains come, combined with lots of heat and humidity. It is usually cloudy and extremely muggy.

Best Time to Visit Zhangjiajie
The best time to visit Zhangjiajie is generally regarded as late Autumn- the end of October, and throughout the month of November. During this season the weather is cool and mild, without the heavy rains, sun, and heat of spring and summer.
The weather is also not bitter cold like it is in the winter. Late autumn is also the low-tourist season, so prices are cheaper and there are relatively few tourists in the park.

1. Be prepared for a lot of rain. There are more days with rain than without in all of spring in Zhangjiajie.
2. Plan ahead- spring marks the beginning of “elbow season,” or high tourist season. You will need to get accommodation and transportation planned out ahead of time, as there might not be hotels, etc. available when you visit.

Tips for Visiting Zhangjiajie in Summer

1. Summer is busy, so plan ahead and be prepared for many tourists. Also, bring some extra money, as hotels and transport will be at a premium, and park entry will be full-price.
2. Summer is hot, humid, and extremely rainy. Be ready for crazy weather.
3. Water activities and caves are good in the summer because they provide a respite from the heat.

Tips for Visiting Zhangjiajie in Autumn
The most important part about visiting in autumn is to avoid national day (October 1st- 8th). This is one of the busiest times of the year in the park. It makes visiting a huge difficulty and much more expensive. Book your trip mid-October and after, and Zhangjiajie will be much more pleasant.

The mild weather is a great time to check out the misty mountain peaks. This is maybe the best season for hiking and mountain climbing.

If you like snow, this is your season. The cold keeps most tourists away, so the park is tranquil and peaceful. Low tourist numbers also mean there is plenty of accommodation and transportation, and at lower prices. Park entry is also cheaper.

Various sites/attractions at Zhangjiajie may be closed down in the case of too much snow, ice, or extreme winter weather.
